Katsuobushi is a fermented food products unique to Japan and also an ingredient in Japanese cuisine. It can be found in most Japanese dishes like soups, some onigiri, as seasoning for Takoyaki and some other Japanese unique recipes, sauces and many more.

Katsuobushi is made from the Bonito fish; the meat is heated and hung to dry, before being shaved into flakes and then goes through a large number of processes takes several months of hard work and waiting to become ready to use .

Since it is a fish based food, it contains high levels of calcium as well as a good balance of Vitamin D, which together are effective in helping healthy bone development.
